Michael Keenan, recently re-elected to a 2nd term as a Dublin City Councilman and who previously served 6 terms as a Washington Township Trustee, announced today he has formally entered the race for the 22nd District of the Ohio House of Representatives.
"I believe I am the best candidate to serve the constituency of the district," stated Keenan, "and will strive to serve in the same manner in which I have applied myself on behalf of the community for the past 25 years."
Keenan, endorsed by the Franklin County Republican Party, is a resident of Dublin and life-long resident of Franklin County, where he and his wife of 35 years, Jill, have raised their three children.
As President of Sheehan Hutchison Keenan Agency, one of the leading independent insurance agencies in Central Ohio, Keenan credits his success to "my ability to understand the needs and concerns of a wide variety of business types - ranging from small businesses to publicly traded companies - and providing service to meet their needs." In addition, as an employer, "I know first-hand how state legislation can affect small and large businesses directly," said Keenan.
Currently Chairman of the Finance Committee for Dublin City Council, Keenan cites Economic Development and Strategic Planning for the prosperous growth the City of Dublin has enjoyed. "With the opening of Dublin Methodist Hospital, the expansion of the Cardinal Health facilities, and the future Central Ohio Innovation Center (COIC), I am very proud of our achievements and to see the results of our efforts," stated Keenan.
"I would like to take this same experience to the State level," Keenan said.
As further examples, Keenan cited the proposed new cancer facility which is currently under negotiation. "This center alone will potentially provide for 2,500 patients a year and add 1,100 new jobs to the community," Keenan provided. "Also, by being the first center in the United States that utilizes the superior technology of particle therapy to treat inoperable cancers, we continue to lead the way in our strategy of bringing high-tech companies not only to Dublin, but to the region, providing job opportunities for all of central Ohio," Keenan said.
Keenan has served in numerous leadership roles, including positions with the Washington Township Board of Trustees, Ohio Township Association Risk Management Authority, the Route 33 Corridor Executive Committee, and the Dublin Arts Council.
During the 20 years spent serving Washington Township, Keenan is most proud of the growth and professionalism of the fire and emergency medical services that occurred under his watch. We grew from a part-time fire department with 7 firefighters and one fire station to a full-time department with 4 firehouses and over 120 firefighters," Keenan stated.
Additionally, while serving Washington Township, Keenan helped develop the Homestead Park, Kaltenbach Park, and Darree Fields Park.
In his current role as a Dublin Councilman, Keenan is proud of the many accomplishments to date and is looking forward to seeing the results of councils' plans for the future. "We have worked successfully to manage our budget properly and increase city revenue, provide infrastructure to allow for future growth, and bring new jobs to the community, Keenan stated.
Now Keenan is ready to take his skills, experience, and leadership abilities to the statehouse and continue the same record of success he has created in Dublin. "In order to continue my endeavor of improvement to our community, I am fully committed to this campaign, and look forward to serving my friends and neighbors in the 22nd District," concluded Keenan.
